Mayfield Smiles Staff Spotlight: Dr. John Schuster
Here at Mayfield Smiles, we work hard to provide our patients with the best possible experience from the moment they walk through our doors. A large part of that responsibility means anchoring our team with the most knowledgeable and caring dentists. The newest addition to the Mayfield Smiles dental team is Dr. John Schuster. He joined the dental staff in April 2019 and he has brought a wealth of experience to our office since then - both personally and professionally!
Dr. Schuster is an Erie, Pennsylvania native who has done his fair share of traveling - one of his favorite hobbies - throughout his life and educational career. His parents were extensive travelers and he flew on his first plane at the age of 5! When it came time for a college education he attended Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania and graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in 1975. From there, he moved south and earned a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston, Texas. After deciding to pursue dentistry, Dr. Schuster moved back up north to Northeast Ohio, where he received his DDS from Case Western Reserve University in 1985.
But Dr. Schuster’s journey does not stop there. Shortly after graduating from CWRU, he joined the Navy and served for several years until 1988. Even upon his separation, he continued his military service in the reserves, retiring as a Captain in 2011. Today, he stays connected to his Navy veteran friends by participating in an annual golf trip - another one of his favorite hobbies - to Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Dr. Schuster brings over 30 years of dental experience to the Mayfield Smiles office. In 1992, he began taking orthodontic and TMJ courses so he could offer these services to his patients. He is always looking for ways to provide the highest quality care and treatments, and we could not be more honored to have him as a part of our dental staff.
When he is not working, traveling, or golfing, Dr. Schuster also enjoys photography, crime fiction novels, and spending time with his wife, Elinor Levy, and their two adult children.
